Web Developer in East Sussex
As a web developer in East Sussex, I’m working at web design agency Sokada, where I develop and build websites for a wide variety of clients. From small, local companies to larger more corporate clients. I have developed my skills working with some incredibly talented colleagues and I am always looking to better my work. If you see anything on this site that you think I could improve, get in touch!
I’ve been mainly working on building bespoke WordPress sites, and experimenting with frameworks such as Laravel, and Tailwind CSS.
Working as a Web Developer in East Sussex on Bespoke WordPress Sites
WordPress powers over 30% of the internet, which means it’s definitely one of the most popular CMS for WordPress. Whilst practically anyone nowadays can throw together a website on Wix, from an SEO perspective, WordPress is still miles ahead of the other competitors.
Google PageSpeed Insights & Their Affect on Ranking
In the Spring of 2021, Google started factoring in Google Pagespeed Insight Scores into their ranking algorithms. What does this mean? Well, to understand this you’ll need to know what Google Pagespeed Insights actually is.
Google PageSpeed Insights is an automated tool that analyses websites and gives them a score out of a hundred based on 4 different factors; Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices, and SEO. The higher your score in all of these factors, the better. It also takes into account the speed of loading the website on Mobile devices too.
What this means is that now, more than ever, the way your site is built has a more profound effect on your Google Rankings. It’s interesting to see just how well big companies fare against these reports too. You’d think they’d be passing with flying colours. But think again, this is a report run on the ASOS website in September 2021;
Building High Performing WordPress Websites
My main aim when building any website is to build it the best I can. Making sure they size up well to Google PageSpeed insights as best they can, almost future-proofing them.
Of course, websites can never stand the test of time; there are always updates and evolving technologies on the internet that affect the way I work. That’s why I’m always so keen to chat with fellow developers and find out more ways I can better my working.
This website itself was an experiment, with the overall aim to make sure that I reached that magic number of 100/100 on all the Pagespeed insight factors. As you can see from the image, I achieved that goal, with the help of a Laravel/Tailwind theme.
