Productivity at Work & Schedule Send
September 27, 2021 | 2 minute readSchedule Send is by far the biggest key to my productivity at work. On the face of it, you might be thinking it’s counter-intuitive to getting things done, but here’s why I think you’re wrong.
Schedule Send is a feature that is available on many email services, I use Gmail, and that has a really handy schedule send tool built-in.
Instant messaging is shrowding the workplace environment in a cloud of mental health issues. This is driving many people to have the mentality that they should be ‘always available’ never able to go AFK. The consequence of this new attitude is that more and more people are suffering from burnout.
But it’s important to understand that we need to take a step back. Efficiency is not measured by how quickly you respond and get things done. If you simply Google ‘Efficiency’, there is no mention of speed being a key factor of how efficient you are.
Productivity at work; If it’s not time-sensitive, schedule send
Let’s imagine a scenario. You get an email come in, it’s a Tuesday morning and you’ve not yet started your working day. You get an email asking for a report to be done by Friday, and realistically it will take you an hour to get done.
But what if you’re just about to start out on a big project? Well here’s what I do.
Do the report as early as you can, it might be the last thing you do at the end of the day, or you could even get it done as soon as you get it.
But the deadline is Friday, if you sent it as soon as you completed it, you might be bombarded with emails throughout the week with changes, suggestions, extra tasks. Something you don’t need, especially when you’ve got enough on your plate.
The solution? Schedule Send.
You can still send it before it’s due, and allow you to get more stuff off your plate before you get any kind of response from the recipient.
On the face of it, the schedule send tool is the most counter-productive tool you can use. But just think about it. Getting work off your desk and planning it to come back to you when you have time to deal with it is the most valuable way of maintaining a smooth workflow, and make sure you’re as efficient as you can be.
